Hi there 👋

I love turning complex ideas into simple, useful experiences with a strong focus on user needs, clear flows, and clean design.

Kristbjörg Ósk Óskarsdóttir | Digital designer

Get to know me 👩‍💻

  • Primarily fintech-focused software design, where I’ve taken ideas from concept to launch as a solo designer. This includes everything from user research and wireframing to building complete design systems.

  • I graduated from the Reykjavik Academy of Development in 2021, where I studied frontend development, design, and a bit of backend.

For the past three years, I’ve been working as a digital designer. Before that, I worked as a frontend developer for one year, with a strong focus on CSS and visual implementation.

I’ve always been drawn to human behavior and simple, thoughtful aesthetics so transitioning into UX/UI design felt natural. Recently, I’ve been diving deeper into the UX side of digital design, as I find it both fascinating and essential to base design decisions on real user data. I’d love to explore this area further in my next role.

Thanks to my background in coding, I have a strong technical understanding not just from the user’s perspective, but also from the developer's. I know which design choices are more complex or time-consuming to implement, and which are not and I always keep that in mind when designing.

  • I'm an independent designer who enjoys taking ownership and having a clear vision of what needs to be done in each project. I’m confident making decisions and staying focused on priorities — but I also really value collaboration.

I thrive in teams built on mutual respect and trust, where ideas and designs can be shared openly for honest feedback and discussion. I’m not afraid to ask questions when something is unclear, or to speak up with suggestions when relevant.

I prefer delivering work early and often, so I can iterate based on feedback and keep improving.

My go-to design tool is Figma. I usually start by creating components right away — it helps ensure flexibility and makes it easier to build a solid design system from the beginning. I like to keep my files clean and well-organized for developers, QA, and PMs, while keeping a separate playground file for exploring and experimenting with ideas.

  • As I mentioned earlier, I'm currently diving deeper into UX and I’m also becoming increasingly interested in accessibility. I believe accessibility is often overlooked in digital projects, which means a large group of users ends up excluded.

To expand my knowledge in both areas, I'm currently taking a few courses with the Interaction Design Foundation, as well as the Google UX Design course through Coursera.

My ideal role

I'm currently looking for a UX design role in a larger team ideally within an established company that has already built a strong product foundation.

After several years of working solo on early-stage startup projects, I'm ready to move into a more collaborative environment, where I can exchange ideas, learn from others, and contribute to a shared design culture. I'm especially drawn to teams that value clarity, thoughtful user journeys, and honest feedback.

My strength lies in simplifying complex processes and designing intuitive user flows based on real user needs. I care deeply about user experience and usability. I want to go deep into understanding user behavior, prototyping solutions, and iterating based on testing and data.

I’d love to join a product team where UX is respected and where there’s room to grow, collaborate, and focus on creating real value for users.

On more personal notes… ☺️

Millennial born in 1992 in Reykjavik, Iceland 🇮🇸 but in my past life, I probably lived in Spain 🇪🇸, as for some reason I keep going back there, either moving or on a long visit.

I’m a dog mom to Nala 🐶. I adopted her from a shelter in Barcelona 8 years ago when I lived there. She’s a huge character and, at the same time, a very challenging dog. She was found on the streets as a puppy and is afraid of many things. She’s the best thing I have 💕

I’ve always loved traveling and exploring new places. Before I became a digital designer, I worked in the tourism industry, and for the past few years, I’ve also been an Airbnb host (and yes, I’m a very proud Superhost and my places are “guests’ favourites” ☺️).

I always have to be moving in some way and was a gym rat 🏋️‍♀️ for a couple of years. Last year, I decided to quit the gym and mix things up a bit so I started learning to run 🏃‍♀️, outside. I’ve never liked running, so I wanted to challenge myself and do it anyway and to my surprise, I actually started to enjoy it!

"Fun" facts in case we grab lunch together 😃:
I haven’t had any dark cola drinks since I was 16, and I’ve been a pescatarian since I was about 24.
